    Bono is slated to make a pair of public appearances this week in the U.S.-- one singing performance and one speaking presentation. First up is the Jazz Foundation of America's (JFA) annual concert and gala at the Apollo Theater in Harlem on Thursday night (May 17). Bono is listed as one of the concert performers on the JFA's website. Guests at the fund raiser will include Quincy Jones, Dr. John and others. Tickets are still available for the concert and start at $$100.

    The second set of results from the 2012 U2 Fan Survey is now available, and it takes us through section D -- i.e., four of the nine total sections. As a reminder, the survey was open from April 5th through April 30th. We received completed responses from 3,530 fans in 79 countries this year, both of which are down from 2010. We think that's likely due to the band being in downtime right now, meaning less traffic to @U2 and fewer fans being aware of the survey.

    I have always preferred a steady mix of good music and good lyrics in a song. For me the perfect combination of these two is in the ratio 50:50. There can be no compromise, and yes I do often unknowingly judge people on their musical preferences. But that’s always an unconscious element of my value judgements so I hope to be forgiven for that. To further my point here I am posting some links here to songs to emulate my fact better. Oh, and if there is a brilliant video to such good songs, it makes the whole experience of the song even better.

    I will never rock a mustache like that man. I have never enjoyed shaving. For me, it’s always been something that I do more out of necessity than desire. I don’t think I’d look good with a full beard, although I might try growing a goatee someday. Lately, I’ve started taking my time. I’ve bought aftershave and am now using shaving soap instead of gel. It’s helping. The ritual now takes longer (especially when I shave against the grain), but it’s more satisfying. Some people prefer an electric razor. I will never understand that.     Today’s new music comes all the way from Finland. Bald, rapey Charlie Brooker look-a-like: Paska. Forming in the mid-80s, Paksa (Ari Peltonen) is a one-man barrage of spoken-word/a-cappella words and noises, often covering original songs in his own unique way. “Paska” literally translates to “shit” in Finish, which Peltonen says is to show that anyone can make music, even if they are absolute paska.
