U2 RADiO Earlier this week, I was listening to a band who isn't U2, (I'm not going to say who because this isn't about tearing anyone down), and I remembered reading about how the particular record I was spinning was recorded with each band member recording their parts separately, in different studios in different parts of the country. “What an impersonal way to make music!” I thought, which seems to be a real shame because there's nothing more personal than music, and recording it with someone should be an intimate experience that joins two souls together. Of course, this kind of…

Each lab, or lesson, includes a brief story about the artist with special mention of their historical context or social connections, an essential playlist, a “song fact” about a greatest hit (“Where The Streets Have No Name” for U2), and then a “Try…

There’s a time and a place for everything, they say. And in my humble opinion, for whatever that may mean, there’s an end coming. I know I upset a lot of people when I say this but my impression is this will likely be U2’s last tour. I could be hopelessly wrong about that. I would not be surprised if I wasn’t. Especially if Bono keeps hurting himself! Given that probability, I think it’s time to explore something that I would have loved to see long ago. Edge, striking out on his own as a recording artist. 12 Dec 2014 | 12:46 pm
If you’re interested in some last minute gift ideas for that special musician and/or U2 fan in your life, you might want to consider this. Christie’s is including one of Bono’s custom Gretsch Irish Falcons in a London auction on December 16. This is the iconic green hollow body guitar that Bono has used on stage since the Elevation tour, and bears the phrase “The Goal Is Soul” on the pickguard. Christie’s notes that while Gretsch collaborated with the U2 frontman on a production model in 2005, this guitar is from Bono’s own private collection and is…

    11 Dec 2014 | 8:48 am
That’s a traditional Irish carol Bono is whispering on Michael W. Smith’s new Christmas album. “The Darkest Midnight” is from a collection called the Kilmore Carols, from the village of Kilmore in County Wexford. The song’s official title is “On Christ’s Nativity,” and while versions of the poem differ, it typically runs many verses long. Bono speaks just these two verses — the first and last verses of the carol. He changes “every devil” in the second verse to “everyone,” and he repeats the last two lines of the…

U2 fans from around the world have shared brief video messages to let Bono know that they’re (we’re) thinking about him, praying for him, and hoping he recovers fully and quickly from that awful bike accident last month. @U2 was one of many fan sites around the world to help spread news about the video project, but U2 fan Paulo Vetri did all the hard work — collecting, editing, and creating the final video. He’s just let us know that it’s done, so have a look: Isn’t that cool? Congrats Paulo on the excellent video you’ve made, and…

Looking at this up coming tour from the prospective of the band and crew this will turn out to be the best dam tour of them all.Think about this the band rolls into a city and sets up the show for three to seven nights and boom they are locked in. The crew really does not have much to do but run the show nightly and of course maybe some promotional work during the day and that's about it. For the most part this is a dream tour for the crew.  The band well the older the band gets and lets remember Bono is not…

I realize this may upset a few of the hardcore fans of U2. I happen to be one of them. Bono has talked extensively on the subject of whether U2 is still relevant. Sadly, the answer appears to be a resounding ‘no’.From the negative reception to U2’s ‘gift’ of Songs of Innocence to what basically amounts to minimal radio play of “The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)”, is there a way to think anything less? A brief look at YouTube statistics tells the same story. U2’s “Miracle” has under two million plays. By comparison, Foo Fighter’s recent “Something From Nothing” (a song…

  • What Makes a Real U2 Fan?

    31 Jan 2015 | 6:00 am
U2 RADiO This is a question I've asked myself often over the years, and I'm guessing you have too – especially these last few chapters of their career. This may only be the case on the West Coast (at least I hope it is, since I'm going to finally experience my first East Coast U2 show this year!) but it almost seems like the crowds get more generic, and filled with fewer and fewer real U2 fans, with every tour. My observation is that half the crowd is there because they think of U2 the way baby boomers think of the Rolling... The post What Makes a Real U2 Fan? originated on U2 RADiO.

U2 RADiO My good friend Danielson checked in with me this week wondering what all the “Hoopla” was about the Patriots and their deflated balls? (Go ahead and try to say that phrase without laughing) Then, young Daniel made a brilliant analogy and compared “Deflate-gate” to being a U2 fan. Mind officially blown! The connection is not too far off. People, far and wide who aren't even football fans joined in on the mob mentality and began stomping more air out of the story than what was really there, know any band that just went through a similar situation back in September with a…
